What We Do

Our Legal Services

All services will be provided free of charge to eligible clients once Hope Pro Bono opens to the public. We are completing the final steps of our statutory set-up and look forward to serving those who have nowhere else to turn — with professionalism, dignity, and genuine care. GBV Legal Aid
Will provide free legal representation for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and forced marriage — including applying for Protection Orders and Interim Protection Orders, legal advice, and trauma-informed support throughout the legal process.

SARV Legal Aid
Will provide free legal representation for victims and survivors of Sorcery Accusation Related Violence — one of very few organisations offering this specialist service in the Highlands Region of PNG. Legal aid will cover court representation and appearances before relevant authorities.

Family Law
Will provide free legal representation across family law matters including child custody, maintenance, matrimonial property disputes, child protection, and family violence under Papua New Guinea family law — with full court appearances and legal advice at no cost.

Duty Lawyer Service
A duty lawyer service is planned to commence as soon as Hope Pro Bono is able to, supported by employed or volunteer lawyers. The service will focus exclusively on GBV and SARV matters — specifically Interim Protection Order and Protection Order hearings at the Mount Hagen District Court. There are plans to expand this service to the Walume District Court through our satellite legal clinic.

Will conduct community awareness campaigns on legal rights, GBV and SARV, and deliver training programs for community leaders, health workers, village court magistrates and law enforcement on human rights.

Areas We Cannot Assist With

Hope Pro Bono Legal Inc. is a specialist community legal centre. Our services are limited to gender-based violence, SARV, family law, duty lawyer services, and human rights advocacy. We are not a general legal practice and cannot assist with the following matters.

We Do Not Assist With
  • ✕Commercial & Business Law — company formations, commercial contracts, business disputes, partnerships or corporate matters
  • ✕Taxation Matters — personal or business tax disputes, IRC matters, customs and excise
  • ✕Immigration Law — visa applications, citizenship, deportation appeals or work permits
  • ✕Employment & Industrial Law — workplace disputes, unfair dismissal, industrial awards or enterprise bargaining
  • ✕General Criminal Defence — except through our Duty Lawyer service at designated courts; we do not provide ongoing criminal defence representation outside that program
  • ✕Debt Collection & Credit Disputes — personal or business debt recovery, loan defaults or credit contract disputes
Also Outside Our Scope
  • ✕Intellectual Property — patents, trademarks, copyright or design registrations
  • ✕Personal Injury Claims (Non-GBV) — negligence, accident claims or workers' compensation not arising from gender-based violence
  • ✕Property Conveyancing — land purchases, transfers, registrations or title disputes unrelated to GBV or family law
  • ✕Defamation — libel, slander or reputation matters
  • ✕Wills & Estates — drafting of wills, probate applications, or estate administration outside family law matters involving GBV
